Peace that Passes All Understanding

A late, unrefined Three Word Wednesday. Prompt words bump, transfix, knuckle.

Peace that Passes All Understanding

He prayed, “Bless those fighting
for peace.” And I scratched
my head in wonder. How can
this be? The world waits
transfixed, fearing the loss
of all, and we ask Almighty God:

Bless us, O Lord, as we
march on to Zion,
beat plows into swords,
carve trees into clubs,
bump off every opponent,
raise bloody knuckles,
make peace by war.

  1. Would that be an oxymoron..the fight for peace..I imagine you scratching your head in the pew..I wonder how many people notice the words..they can become entrenched..Jae

  2. You and me both Nico. Right from a very early age until now, in old age, I find it difficult to make logical sense of the fact that BOTH sides in war have Army Chaplains praying for victory for their side. Asking; almost demanding, that God choose.

  4. Sorry I'm late in responding:

Jae, thanks. A lot of things leave me scratching my head. I can't fault other people too much, though, since I harbor my own oxymoronic tendencies.

Leigh, I suppose sometimes fighting is a necessary evil. But if there is a God who hears prayer (and I do believe), shouldn't we rather ask him for a non-violent peace? It's worth a shot, anyway (sorry for the pun!).

Bluebell, thanks. I just sent along a little poem, and thanks for the invite. I hope you don't mind if I try to contribute over at your place every once in a while!
